Transition FAQs

If your HSA balance is $0.01 or more, the funds in your current account will automatically transfer and be available in your new account as of the transfer date above. Your current account will be closed.

Prior to the transfer date, be sure to cancel any personal recurring contributions from your checking account or payment transactions associated with your debit card.

Make sure your mailing address and account information is accurate and up to date prior to the transfer date. Log in to your current account to review and update your information.

About five to seven days prior to the transfer date, you’ll receive an HSA Bank welcome kit containing privacy policy information, account disclosure information and the new Health Savings Account Fee and Interest Rate Schedule. This will arrive separate from your debit card.

Around this time, you’ll also get an email when your online account is available.

Your current debit card will be deactivated about five to seven days prior to the transfer. You should destroy your debit card as of that date.

You’ll get a new debit card from HSA Bank about five to seven days prior to the transfer date. Please do not use your new card until after the transfer date. You can use your new card to pay for IRS-qualified healthcare expenses like doctor appointments, prescription medication and dental care.

If you incur expenses after your current debit card is deactivated and before the transfer date, you can pay for IRS-qualified healthcare expenses out of pocket and reimburse yourself after the funds are transferred to your new account.

Reimbursements can be done in your online account. Log in to your account to make a one-time or recurring online transfer from your HSA to your external, personal checking or savings account. You may need to create your online account first – read the FAQ.

Once the balance of your account is transferred, your checks will no longer be valid. Any check presented for payment on or after the transfer date of your account will not be honored and will be returned.

You can pay providers directly from your online account. Log in, go to Manage Expenses and complete the steps to pay a provider.

No. Any recurring contributions or payment transactions for your current account will be canceled as of the date your HSA is closed. This includes online bill payments.

You can set up new recurring personal contributions or payment transactions through your HSA Bank online account. This includes recurring payments you have used your current debit card to pay.

You’ll receive two tax summaries for the 2025 tax year, one for your current account and one for your new HSA Bank account.

Your current custodian will provide tax summaries for your current account.

HSA Bank will provide tax summaries for your new account. You’ll get a copy of your summary in both the mail and through electronic delivery, unless you update your delivery preferences.
